Charter school a touchstone for community

As a result, there is new buzz and excitement. These parents and neighbors, by example, are showing the value of sharing and of giving to one's community.

The measure of success ought to be how well-prepared the students are when they leave DIA, with not only the knowledge and skills needed for the global economy but also with the foundation for the love of learning to continue throughout their lives and a sense of giving to their community and being part of a world community.

The public is welcome to join in the celebration starting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Dual Immersion Academy, located at 1155 S. Glendale Drive, where Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. will join neighbors in the ribbon cutting.


A Utah native, John Florez has founded several Hispanic civil rights organizations; been on the staff of Sen. Orrin Hatch, served on more than 45 state, local and volunteer boards; and filled White House appointments, including deputy assistant secretary of labor and as a member of the commission on Hispanic education.
