While residents in that area want to stay in Granite, they are at the mercy of the cities around them. And since South Salt Lake and Holladay have both approved a possible split from Granite School District, Cottonwood activists are fearful for the school's future.
Murray has no intention of keeping Cottonwood High open should it fall within Murray boundaries, and would most likely close or lease the facility.
Holladay Councilman Lynn Pace pitched a plan approved by both Holladay and South Salt Lake that would keep that chunk in Granite, with a corridor connecting the east-side schools to Granite.
The constitutionality of a corridor running through a new district is still up for debate.
But if legislators are able to clear up problems, than the split could be discussed, unclouded by the Cottonwood High issue.
"I think the Granite District split is waiting on a decision from the county, which is waiting on a decision from the state Legislature," he added.
