"'If you build it, they will come,' holds some validity," said Van Dyke. "We're packing in the house every night. We will attract more people if we had a nice facility instead of a transformed radio shack."

The proposed theater also has plans for a 150-200 seat black box theater, recital halls and recording space.

BPAC holds firm that their community theater is needed in the Davis County.

"I really think there's a place for a community theater that I would not like to disappear," said Cardinal. "We really draw on a wide range of community members."

If the tax is voted on affirmatively, South Davis Regional Theater is expected to have its groundbreaking early next Spring.

"Together we'll run the South Davis Cultural Arts Center," said Van Dyke. "It isn't really Rodgers versus BPAC."
