"Father Brown: Set 2" (Acorn, 1974, two discs, $39.99). The title character is a detective who also happens to be a priest, solving mysteries based on G.K. Chesterton's novels. He's played by British star Kenneth More, also known for the Titanic movie "A Night to Remember" and the first BBC production of "The Forsyte Saga." He's great as Father Brown, using a deceptively benign manner and a sense of humor to give his suspects a false sense of security. (Think clerical Columbo.)

"Masters of Horror: Valerie on the Stairs" (Anchor Bay, 2007, $14.98).

"Masters of Horror: We All Scream for Ice Cream" (Anchor Bay, 2007, $14.98). Two more episodes of the gory Showtime horror series. The former is a Clive Barker story about an unpublished writer in a commune house that may be haunted. The latter has a mentally challenged clown who drives an ice cream truck being made the subject of a cruel prank and getting surreal vengeance years later.

TV specials

"Brian Regan: Standing Up" (Comedy Central/Paramount, 2007, $19.99). Regan is hilarious, and he's also squeaky clean, unlike nearly everything else that Comedy Central produces. Sit down with the family and enjoy his observations on such universal, everyday things as raising young children, people who drive and talk on cell phones, and the proper procedure for toasting Pop Tarts. His fans know him so well that during an encore (in the bonus features), they yell out requests for their favorite routines.
