FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER — ** — This comic book sequel plays out like an unfunny sitcom and features even less action than its predecessor. Running time: 92 minutes, PG (violence, vulgarity, profanity, torture, brief drugs)

HAIRSPRAY — *** — John Travolta's rather unfunny and sometimes tone-deaf turn is the one sore-thumb element in this energetic and enjoyable musical-comedy. Running time: 107 minutes, PG (vulgarity, profanity, racial epithets, violence)

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX — ** 1/2 — This fifth movie adventure is two hours' worth of build-up to perhaps 10 minutes of pay-off. For diehard Potter-philes only. Running time: 138 minutes, PG-13 (violence, mild profanity, vulgarity)
