Jordan School Board opts to reconsider its pay raise

The Jordan Classified Professional Association wanted the board to set aside the insurance option and study offering the same perk to all employees.

Horiuchi moved to do that, and in the meantime, have board members refrain from the cash-out until the study was over and even then, limit it to what other employees could receive. Linking that study to the board's compensation mandates the option will be studied.

"I think it will open doors for other options for employees," she said.

But her motion died on a 2-4 vote.

"I would like ... to bring this back to the board on its own (merit), but not link it to my compensation," board member Sherril Taylor said.

JCPA President Gary Martensen said he looks forward to the board taking the additional step of examining an insurance cash-out for all employees.

Meanwhile, Alpine and Washington school districts have said they plan to examine their compensation, too. Provo board members entertained it but decided against moving forward.
