Giuliani to visit Utah a 2nd time
Alpine, Park City fund-raisers could raise more than $500,000
Just over four months after his first visit, the former New York City mayor and Republican presidential hopeful will make a brief swing through the state for a pair of fund-raisers. Campaign spokesman Jarrod Agen said that the trip would not include an overnight stay since he is expected to attend events in Cincinnati on Thursday.
"Mayor Giuliani is returning to the state to meet with supporters and talk about his 12 commitments," which is the focus of his campaign platform, Agen said.
Kristy Coleman, who is organizing the events for the Giuliani campaign, said that between 300 and 400 people are expected to attend the two events. That could raise more than $500,000 for the candidate.
As of Tuesday night, neither event was scheduled to be open to the public or the media and no public appearances were planned. Coleman said they were planning to keep a lower profile in Utah out of sensitivity to the six miners who are trapped in the Crandall Canyon Mine in Huntington.
The first event is in Alpine and is scheduled to last from 4:30 to 6 p.m., while the second is in Park City from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Giuliani is planning to speak at both gatherings.
The Alpine event will cost donors $2,000 for a reception and photo with Giuliani and will be preceded by a private, invitation-only "rally." The Park City event will also offer the photo and reception for $2,000 or the reception for $500.
During his previous visit, Giuliani raised about $250,000 during a fund-raiser at the home of former Salt Lake County Councilman Steve Harmsen. He also spoke briefly with the media.
Guiliani is one of seven presidential candidates who have visited the state this year. Fellow Republicans Mitt Romney and Arizona Sen. John McCain have made stops, and four Democrats former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama have also visited.
It was less than a week ago that Obama created a stir with a relatively impromptu roadside rally at the Park City Visitors Center that drew hundreds of supporters. His fund-raiser brought in about $250,000.
