"I used to buy those plats when I was in the title business," Maughan said
Before he ran for public office, Maughan was the public. He worked for his family's title company, Home, Abstract and Title Co. in Ogden, and dealt with the recorder's office on a regular basis.
As the technology changed over the years, the title companies have changed with it, and the Davis County Recorder's Office needed to do the same, he said.
Maughan's chief deputy, Laile Lomax, agreed.
The technology she and Maughan implemented has made title searches easier for people who come in off the street.
But Maughan isn't only about technology, Lomax said.
It's common to spot Maughan not in his office, but attending to patrons at the Davis County Memorial Courthouse.
"He makes sure half of his day he out helping people out front," Lomax said. "He's a very hard-working part of this office."
"I try to do the best I can," Maughan said.
