Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon attended the meeting and said he's anxious to see where a House Speaker Greg Curtis-sponsored bill will go. That bill by the Sandy Republican would equalize school construction on a countywide level, so all school building and renovation funds would go into one pot and then be allocated as needed.

"My concern at this point is we still have the issue of capitalized funding," he said. "I think ultimately, there should be a vote. The question is when."

East Murray will no longer be a part of that vote. Although Murray has its own school district, a chunk of the city is part of Granite School District. Tuesday, however, the Murray City Council voted that those residents would not participate in the school district vote.

The city has hosted four public hearings over the month and concluded from residents comments that east Murray will stay with Granite if the east-side vote fails or annex into Murray School District if the vote succeeds.

The annexation would take place in fall 2009, when the rest of the cities would be settling into their own districts.

South Salt Lake is slated to vote on the district during its Wednesday council meeting at 7:30 p.m. Salt Lake County is expected to vote July 31 — that vote, however, may be delayed until August.
