"He really never gave me anything to capitalize on and I didn't take advantage of the few chances that he did give me," said Fillmore, who advanced to the semis by beating former Utah Valley star Nic Van Vuuren 1-up in a morning quarterfinal match.

Nelson started Saturday by sending Brady Stanger home 1-up when he rolled in a tough 12-foot par putt on the 18th green. Despite conceding a couple of back-nine holes in his semifinal match to Chris Gresh with a couple of errant drives, he battled back to finish the scheduled 18 holes all square. After Gresh barely missed a 20-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole, Nelson ended the match when he calmly stroked in a 10-foot birdie putt.

"His putting was going to get me eventually, so I knew it had to be done right there," Nelson said.

Gresh thought he had the match won in regulation, but his long downhill birdie putt on No. 18 sniffed the hole and then turned away at the last second.

"It hurts a little bit, but I did everything I could to try to make those putts. They just didn't go in, that's all," Gresh said.

Gresh, a University of Utah senior-to-be, earned his spot in the semis by using two eagles and four birdies to knock off Ute teammate Chance Cota in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Today's final begins at 7:30 a.m. with the first 18 holes of match play, followed by a second 18 holes at 12:30 p.m.
