LINDON — The Lindon City Council appointed Jim Dain as the new mayor Friday night after a lengthy discussion.

The city council deliberated for nearly 90 minutes before unanimously appointing Dain, 54, to the position.

City Administrator Ott Dameron contacted Dain after the council reached its decision at 11:30 p.m. Dain said he was excited to receive the news.

"I'm delighted," he said. "I'll be delighted to serve as mayor."

Dain replaces Jeff Acerson, who stepped down recently to become president of the Rome, Italy, mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Dain will serve as the council-appointed mayor until November, when the city will have a mayoral election. In the meantime, he said, he is looking forward to addressing city issues.

Dain said one of those issues includes deciding whether Lindon should continue its contract for police and fire services with Pleasant Grove, contract with another city or to start its own police and fire departments.

"I'll work with the council closely to determine what the best direction is," he said.
