W.V. councilwoman won't seek new term

After 17 years as a member of the West Valley City Council, Margaret Peterson said last week that she will not seek re-election this year.

During Peterson's council tenure, which began in 1990, she contributed to the creation of the Family Fitness Center and the Utah Cultural Celebration Center. She also served on the Salt Lake Olympic Committee Board of Trustees.

Peterson is the longest-serving council member in the city's 27-year history.

Peterson will continue to serve as chairwoman of the Community Education Partnership and a trustee of the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District.
