A Flagstaff, Ariz., girl drowned Saturday morning after succumbing to carbon monoxide poisoning at Lake Powell.

Megan Evans and Kayleen Tubbs, both 7, were swimming near two 30-foot cabin cruisers that had their motors running when Tubbs' mother found her floating unconscious in the water, said Keith Schneider, management assistant for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

After rescuing Tubbs the group found Evans' body under 5-10 feet of water.

Paramedics flew both girls to Page Hospital in Page, Ariz., where doctors attributed Evans' death to drowning caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. Tubbs was later released and is expected to make a full recovery.

Schneider said this is the first fatality related to carbon monoxide at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area since 2002.
