PROVO — Brigham Young University's 85th annual Campus Education Week will be Aug. 20-24 at various locations across the BYU campus.

This year's program, co-sponsored by BYU and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Church Educational System, will offer more than 1,000 classes ranging from education, religion, family relations and genealogy to history, health, science, law and finance.

Presenters will include 179 returning favorites from years past and 29 new presenters.

Although much of the program is designed for adults, anyone over the age of 14 may attend. There will be more than 60 classes and a dance specifically for youth.

Participants may register for the week, a day or just a few hours. Registration can be done by telephone, Internet, mail or in person, and costs from $66 to $12.

The campuswide Education Week devotional on Aug. 21 at 11:10 a.m. will feature Elder Richard G. Scott of the LDS Church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The devotional will be held in the Marriott Center and is open to the public.

Three separate special performances, each running Aug. 21-Aug. 24, will also be held during Education Week:

• "An Evening with Marvin Goldstein," 8 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center

• "The White Star" by Doug Stewart and Janice Kapp Perry, 7 p.m. in the Pardoe Theater, Harris Fine Arts Center

• "Take the Mountain Down: A Finger Pickin' Parable" by Marvin Payne and the Potluck Social String Band, 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

Volunteer hosts over the age of 18 are needed, and tuition fees are waived for those who participate. Hosts check name badges at doors, count the number of participants attending lectures, keep the flow of participants moving smoothly around campus and help uphold BYU's dress standards. Parking will be available at LaVell Edwards Stadium, the Marriott Center and other areas designated on the map provided with the Education Week mailer available on request.

For other lots, there is a shuttle service that runs throughout the duration of Education Week and drops participants off at designated locations on the mailer map. Use of public transportation and carpooling is encouraged.

This year's theme is "The Dawning of a Brighter Day."
