HIGHLAND — After years of planning to build a new, wheelchair-accessible City Hall in Highland, the city is finally ready to break ground in a new location.

City officials will celebrate the ground breaking Monday at 5:30 p.m. at 5445 W. Town Square Park Rd., which is near 10700 North in Highland.

A new justice building will also be built in the same area.

The City Hall is expected to be completed in less than a year.

The city's current City Hall was not wheelchair-accessible for many years until recently, when a modified entrance was installed at the building's west entrance.

The Disability Law Center filed a lawsuit against Highland in 2006 because the City Hall was not in compliance with federal accessibility guidelines.
