Throughout the years, the lyrics to UVSC's fight song had to be altered to accommodate name changes — Utah Technical College at Provo, Utah Valley Community College, then Utah Valley State College.

And next year, it will become Utah Valley University.

"I think it's a really fine song music-wise," said Erickson. "I looked up some information, just hoping it might be helpful. The University of Michigan has one of the most famous fight songs, 'The Victors.' It was written in 1898" and several generations have passed it on.

The "Notre Dame Victory March" was composed in 1905. The University of Wisconsin's "On Wisconsin" was written in 1909. The University of Southern California's "Fight On!" was written in 1922.

"Stand Up and Cheer, UVSC" has only been around 25 years, which may be part of the reason why it hasn't caught on, Erickson said.

The committee will recommend administrators play the fight song on radio commercials so the public begins to recognize it.
