AMERICAN FORK — Sherry Kramer was recently chosen as American Fork's newest City Council member to replace former Councilman Jimmie Cates, who died of cancer on May 18.

Kramer was chosen out of six candidates by American Fork's current City Council and mayor for her experience and active involvement with the community, said Mayor Heber Thompson. Kramer is a member of the Alpine School Community Council and the American Fork Board of Adjustments.

The 10-year resident of American Fork began her involvement with the community in 2001, when Kramer co-founded Parents for Parks, Trails and Open Space. The group encouraged the city to create Hunter Park in 2002.

Kramer received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Brigham Young University. She is married to Ron Kramer, who is an attorney, and they have six children.
