Camille Fehlberg is so shy that if she wasn't so talented, it would be easy to overlook her.

"Sometimes when she calls out plays you can hardly hear her," said Emery girls basketball coach Steve Gordon. "She is a leader by example."

Her athletic and academic achievements, however, make the Emery senior impossible to ignore, and now her efforts have earned her national recognition.

Fehlberg, who earned 3A MVP honors after leading the Spartans to a girls basketball title in February, was one of 25 high school athletes to earn the National Scholar Athlete Milk Moustache of the Year Award.

While she's unsure how she feels about meeting NFL quarterback Rex Grossman and Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan, she's very honored by the scholarship award.

"It's one of those things you just apply for, but don't expect to get because there are so many kids," said Fehlberg, who will attend Utah State University next fall on a track scholarship. As for meeting celebrities and appearing in a Milk Moustache ad in USA Today, well, she's not sure how she feels about that.

"It's kind of cool," she said.

After leading the Spartans to a 3A title in basketball, she went on to earn first place in the 300-meter hurdles and second place in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles.

Additionally, she maintained a 4.0 GPA and was an Academic All-State player and a Sterling Scholar in math.

It was a teacher who nominated her several months ago, and while she had her doubts about whether she'd earn the scholarship, she figured there was no harm in trying.

The student athletes' applications are reviewed by a panel of celebrity judges, including Andy Roddick, Jason Kidd, Mia Hamm, Tony Hawk and Michelle Kwan. In addition to earning the scholarship, Fehlberg will join Grossman and Kwan at an award ceremony at the SAMMY Hall of Fame at the Milk House in Disney's Wide World of Sports. The 25 student athletes will also appear in the June 22 issue of USA Today in a Milk Moustache Ad.

"We are proud to have the opportunity to honor and award Camille as an extraordinary teen who understands the importance of staying focused on studying hard, being active and making healthy lifestyle choices, like including milk in her daily routine," said Kurt Graetzer, CEO of the National Milk Mustache "got milk?" campaign.

Fehlberg hopes to earn a master's degree in psychology.

"I want to be a high school counselor and coach," Fehlberg said. She chose to study at USU because the school has developed a lot of successful hurdlers.

"I like the feel of the campus," she said.
