Fair-rated buildings would receive some structural damage. They have some falling hazards, but there's little chance of the building crumbling and causing a death during a quake.
Ninety-five buildings received a fair rating.
All the buildings that make up Mountain View High got fair seismic performance ratings except for the wrestling room addition, which received a good rating.
Moran, Reaveley's reviewing engineer of Alpine buildings, said that some of the buildings with fair ratings could be upgraded to good with further study.
Some of the fair-rated buildings were constructed in the late 1990s to standards of the International Building Code that are now considered outdated.
The current IBC in use was developed in 2006.
But the standards may not necessarily make such buildings unsafe.
"There are ones that are fair and (are) expected to perform as well as good or very good," Moran said. "But there's a big jump between fair and a lower grade than that."
"We'll start chipping away at that in our capital budget," Alpine Superintendent Vern Henshaw said.
