PROVO — BYU men's basketball coach Dave Rose has signed Archie Rose, a 6-foot-4 swingman from Nassau, Bahamas, and Mike Loyd Jr., a 6-foot-2 combo guard from Las Vegas, to national letters of intent.

Archie Rose (no relation to Dave Rose) comes to BYU from Lee College in Baytown, Texas, where he was the team's second-leading scorer and rebounder averaging 12.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2005-06. A good shooter, Rose made a team-leading 46 three-pointers for the Runnin' Rebels while adding 1.9 assists per game. He comes to BYU as a junior with two years of eligibility.

Loyd led Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas to a share of the Sunset Northwest League title and a 21-5 overall record while earning Sunset Northwest First Team and All-Sunset Region Second Team accolades as a senior in 2007. He averaged 16.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.4 steals while helping the Panthers advance to the Sunset Regional semifinals.

Dave Rose also announced that Jean Carlos Otero, a 6-foot-7 forward who signed with the Cougars in November out of Miami-Dade College (Miami, Fla.), has not met NCAA transfer requirements and will not be attending BYU.
