Runners will follow the Bonneville upper shoreline trail overlooking Ogden and the Great Salt Lake. Competitive racers can earn points for qualification in the XTERRA National Trail Running Championships in Lake Tahoe in September. MOTORCYCLE SAFETY MONTH

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Data from the Utah Department of Public Safety show the majority of motorcycle crashes occur from May through September. There were 971 motorcycle crashes in Utah in 2005 and most resulted in injury or death — 25 fatalities and 829 people injured.

Tips for motorists:

• Motorcycles are vehicles, too. Give them a full lane in traffic and don't follow too closely.

• Watch for motorcycles on the road, particularly at intersections and when changing lanes. Use your mirrors and always signal your turns.

• Debris and pot holes are a danger to motorcyclists. Give them plenty of maneuver room.

For motorcyclists:

• Obtain adequate insurance and a proper license.

• Take a motorcycle rider education course. Go to www.utahridered.com.

• Wear protective gear, including a helmet.
