Christensen says S.L. should brag of Games
"Let's brag about it," the former city councilman said in a news release.
Christensen is calling for the Olympics to be central to the city's branding of itself at the Salt Lake International Airport, all freeway entrances to the city, downtown transit stops and places like The Gateway and the planned City Creek Center.
"I do not believe that Salt Lake City is doing all it can to promote itself as an Olympic city," said Christensen, who was a trustee of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. "The Olympics focused the world's attention on Salt Lake and the greater Wasatch Front community, and we exceeded everyone's expectations. This is something we all should be immensely proud of something that we should promote."
Christensen is one of seven people seeking to replace Mayor Rocky Anderson as the capital city's chief executive. Other candidates are House Minority Leader Ralph Becker, D-Salt Lake; City Councilman Dave Buhler; colorectal surgeon J.P. Hughes; Centro Civico Mexicano director John Renteria; City Councilwoman Nancy Saxton; and Salt Lake County Councilwoman Jenny Wilson.
The field will be narrowed to two in a Sept. 11 primary. The general election will be Nov. 6.
