Animals in the therapy organization are not limited to dogs. The group boasts many cats, rabbits, a miniature horse and a llama in its ranks.

One of the primary programs the group promotes is Reading Education Assistance Dogs, also known as READ, which now has more than 1,300 certified members in Utah, Idaho and Montana

This part of ITA is dedicated to improving literacy rates in children through reading with registered pet partner certified dogs. So far the program, which launched in 1999, has seen tremendous growth. It can be found in 49 states and three countries.

Sunday's conference schedule will include a special public event to promote the READ program. Ten best-selling children's authors and illustrators will be present from noon to 2 p.m. For $15, guests can enjoy lunch and a book-signing party with the authors and illustrators. The event is being held at the Officer's Club, located at University of Utah's Fort Douglas.
