The Days of '47/Deseret Morning News Landscape Art Show, "2007 Color of the Land," will once again be on display at the Museum of Utah Art & History, 125 S. Main, from July 7-24.

"I thought last year's 'Color of the Land' exhibit was great," said Kandace Steadman, executive director of the MUAH. "A lot of people came in, and a lot of people commented on how pleased they were with the new venue."

According to Steadman, the exhibit fits perfectly with the MUAH's mission: to promote Utah art and Utah history.

"That's exactly what this exhibition does," she said. "If you're documenting our landscape, you're also documenting our history."

With MUAH's new, extended hours, Tuesday-Saturday, noon-5 p.m., visitors will have even more opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of the land, as portrayed by our Utah artists.

As in the past, this year's winner of the Purchase Award will receive from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the medium and size of the work. Again, this affords the Deseret Morning News the option of diversifying its collection by purchasing smaller pieces of various mediums, such as prints, drawings, collage, etc.

First-, second- and third-place winners will receive cash awards of $1,000, $800 and $600 respectively. Each of the two People's Choice awards will receive $200. Five noncash Honorable Mention awards will also be given.

This year's jurors will be Ruby Chacon, Edie Roberson and Brad Teare — an eclectic grouping that is sure to give us a distinctive exhibit teeming with superb work.

Entry forms are now available at local art galleries and museums throughout the state. Forms are also available online at www.deseretnews.com/artshow/ and at the newspaper's headquarters, 30 E. 100 South, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Days of '47/Deseret Morning News Landscape Art Show, "2007 Color of the Land," is open to all Utah artists 18 and older, working in all two-dimensional mediums except photography.
