Fox touts stability; The CW lauds change
Both TV networks announce their new fall schedules
Fox has one additional midseason series that hasn't been penciled into the schedule yet:
The Rules for Starting Over (day and time TBA) is the working title of a comedy from the Farrelly Brothers. It's about a group of newly single friends in their 30s who are looking for true love. The cast includes Craig Bierko, Johnny Sneed, Shaun Majumder and Rashida Jones.
(All this long-range scheduling assumes, of course, that all goes well with the ratings of all the shows between now and then. And that hasn't happened yet, so don't be surprised if things get shifted around long before we reach January, let alone next spring.)
SUMMER SHOWS
In addition to the returning "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Hell's Kitchen," Fox is adding two new reality shows for the summer:
On the Lot (Tuesdays, 7 p.m., debuts May 22) is a competition to be the Next Great Filmmaker, co-produced by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett ("Survivor," "The Apprentice").
Anchorwoman (time and date TBA) is a "reality-comedy" show about a big-city model who tries to succeed as the anchorwoman of a small-town TV newscast.
"Drive," "Happy Hour," "Justice," "The O.C.," "The Rich List," "Vanished" and "The Wedding Bells."
THE CW'S FALL SCHEDULE
The network most relentlessly in pursuit of young (18-34) viewers is making some major changes to attract them.
"Our new shows have attitude and a sense of fun, and they're going to define this network," CW Entertainment president Dawn Ostroff told advertisers.
After lackluster ratings in its first season, The CW is hoping to turn its fortunes around with six new shows.
NEW SHOWS
CW Now (Sundays, 6 p.m.) is newsmagazine of sorts that's designed to be "the ultimate source for everything that's hip, hot and happening right now in the world of young adults." Former KSTU-Ch. 13 news director Lisa Gregorisch ("Extra") is one of the executive producers.
Online Nation (Sundays, 6:30 p.m.) is another youth-oriented show that promises to "scour the nearly infinite number of Web sites, blogs and user-generated materials on the Internet to find the best, the hottest, the unique and sometimes, the flat-out bizarre."
