WASHINGTON — Beaver Municipal Airport received a $178,954 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to help build a wildlife fence, Rep. Chris Cannon said Friday.

The fence will surround the perimeter of the airport to help keep animals — and the general public — out of airport operating areas.

Cannon, R-Utah, also announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded a $995,000 grant to the Provo/Orem Rapid Transit Corridor Alternatives Analysis project.

The federal money will go toward analysis of alternatives for a proposed transit way that was first identified in 2001. The study will include a 10-mile corridor with 17,000 projected daily boardings, according to Cannon's office.

"As one of the fastest-growing states in the nation, Utah's transportation and infrastructure needs will continue to grow," Cannon said. "Researching ways to eliminate congestion and reduce pollution while encouraging innovation, will mean Utahns will have more time to spend with their families."
