The I-15 expansion project, which is expected to begin construction in 2011 or 2012, includes UTA's FrontRunner project for commuter rail in Utah County. More information on the project can be found on UDOT's Web site at www.udot.utah.gov/i15utahcounty.

The expansion will widen I-15 and redesign many of the interstate's on and off-ramp connections. I-15 project manager Merrill Jolley said the road will be designed to handle the million cars that are expected to come with Utah County's growth.

"I don't consider anything we're doing here to be a Band-Aid," Jolley said. "This is surgery. None of it's cheap and none of it's easy. We're trying to be very forward-thinking ... We have two alternatives, reconstruct I-15 or don't."

Through a three-year environmental impact study, which is nearing completion, UDOT will determine how many houses and acres of wetlands will be impacted by the road expansion. From that information, preferred alternatives will be chosen.

"We have not made a decision one way or the other yet," Dupaix said. "We're going through that process, but no decision has been made."

Still, Allred says she doesn't think it's likely she'll be staying in the same place for another 100 years.

"We're kind of like David and Goliath," Allred said. "We're just a little guy against a real big guy."
