ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES — ** — Luc Besson's fantasy blend of live-action and digital animation is never as wondrous as it should be. Running time: 94 minutes, PG (violence, vulgarity)

AVENUE MONTAIGNE — *** — This Gallic comedy-drama is downright chipper. French with subtitles, running time: 101 minutes, PG-13 (profanity, vulgarity, brief sex, ethnic slurs)

BECAUSE I SAID SO — * 1/2 — This smutty film fails miserably, both as a romance and a comedy. Running time: 102 minutes, PG-13 (vulgarity, sex, profanity, slapstick violence)

BLADES OF GLORY — ** 1/2 — This sports comedy does feature a few guilty laughs. Running time: 87 minutes, PG-13 (vulgarity, violence, brief sex, drugs, profanity, brief gore)

THE DANCE — ** 1/2 — It's not great, but at least this locally produced comedy-drama is competently shot and has the sense to know when to say when. Running time: 81 minutes PG (violence, brief drugs, mild profanity)

DAS LEBEN DER ANDEREN (THE LIVES OF OTHERS) — *** — This year's Academy Award-winner for best foreign-language film is surprisingly engrossing. German with subtitles, running time: 132 minutes, R (sex, nudity, vulgarity, profanity, violence)

DISTURBIA — ** 1/2 — This "Rear Window" wannabe is two-thirds of a good movie. Running time: 104 minutes, PG-13 (violence, profanity, vulgarity, brief gore, brief sex, brief partial nudity, brief drugs)

DREAMGIRLS — *** — Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson is the real star of this adaptation of the popular Broadway musical. Running time: 131 minutes, PG-13 (profanity, vulgarity, drugs)

EPIC MOVIE — * — There's barely a laugh in this feature-length spoof of recent films. Running time: 86 minutes, PG-13 (vulgarity, sex, profanity, violence) —Roger Moore, The Orlando Sentinel

FIREHOUSE DOG — ** — A pampered pooch movie that panders to very young people. Running time: 105 minutes, PG (violence, vulgarity, profanity) —Roger Moore, The Orlando Sentinel
