The analysis showed that McCain had the next highest amount from Utahns, just over $113,000, followed by the widely acknowledged GOP front-runner, Giuliani, with slightly more than $76,000.

Utah ranked second behind only California in providing cash to Romney's campaign, coming up with 14 percent of the contributions that were identified as coming from a specific state.

Romney has reported amassing $23 million since the start of the presidential campaign season at the beginning of the year, including $2.35 million in loans he made to his campaign. That's more than any other GOP candidate.

McCain ended up with just 4 percent from Utahns, and Giuliani, 3 percent.

Not surprisingly in Republican-dominated Utah, the major Democratic contenders — Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards — all reported receiving 1 percent or less from Utahns.

Other Democrats in the race, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd, also took in less than 1 percent from Utah, but Utahns gave nothing to Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden and Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

While recent Morning News polls have shown 45 percent of Utahns name Romney as their favorite, he's not the only candidate with ties to the state. Dodd's wife, Jackie, is from Orem and is LDS.
