Mountainland Association of Governments Executive Director Darrell Cook said the price increase may make the regional transportation planning organization re-evaluate some of its planned projects for Utah County.

Road projects, such as the proposed widening of Geneva Road, may be broken up into phases or scaled down.

Not knowing how the prices will fluctuate and what changes will need to take place is something that makes planning transportation projects difficult, Cook said.

"This is a very big issue with us right now," Cook said. "It's pretty weighty. It really loads us down and makes our jobs extremely challenging."

According to Geoff Dupaix, Utah Department of Transportation Region 3 public involvement coordinator, a spike in prices won't affect any of the road projects UDOT is currently working on.

"If we continue to see increases in fuel prices or asphalt/oil prices, that will affect future projects that are four years out or more," Dupaix said.
