Also on TV this weekend, Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, one of the main Republicans involved with the House Judiciary Committee's probe into the firing, will debate Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, on Fox News' "Weekend Live" on Saturday over the firings and Gonzales.

Earlier this week Berenson said that Sampson did not resign because he had misled anyone at the department or withheld informa- tion on the attorneys but that "he felt he had let the attorney general down in failing to appreciate the need for and organize a more effective response to the unfounded accusations that the replacements were improper."

E-mails released to Congress show Sampson working with Miers on compiling a list of attorneys to fire, as well as conversation among depart- ment officials working on responses to the attorneys once they were terminated, including specific talking points on how to respond to questions the attorneys involved asked.
