Conference rundown

Here's a rundown of which teams from local conferences are participating in postseason play.

MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE MEN

Mountain West regular-season champion BYU (25-8) received a No. 8 seed to the NCAA South region and will face No. 9 seed Xavier (24-8) of the Atlantic 10 Conference on Thursday in Lexington, Ky.

The UNLV Rebels (28-6), winners of the MWC tournament, received a No. 7 seed and will battle No. 10 seed Georgia Tech (20-11) of the ACC Friday in Chicago.

Two other MWC teams, Air Force and San Diego State, received invites to the NIT, which begins today. The Falcons (23-8) will play host to Austin Peay (21-11) of the Ohio Valley Conference, while the Aztecs (21-10) will travel to Missouri State (22-10) of the Missouri Valley Conference for another Wednesday showdown.

WESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MEN

Regular-season champion Nevada (28-4) received a No. 7 seed in the NCAA tournament's South region and will face Creighton (22-10) of the Missouri Valley Conference on Friday in New Orleans. Conference tournament champion New Mexico State (25-8) is a No. 13 seed in the East region and will meet Texas (24-9) of the Big 12 Friday in Spokane, Wash.

Utah State (23-11) traveled to Michigan (21-12) to face the Wolverines in the first round of the NIT Tuesday in Ann Arbor, but lost 68-58. Fresno State (22-9) will visit Athens, Ga., on Wednesday to face the Bulldogs in another NIT matchup.

BIG SKY CONFERENCE MEN

Weber State (20-11) claimed the Big Sky's lone postseason berth with a No. 15 seed by winning its conference tournament and will play No. 2 seed UCLA (26-5) in Sacramento in the NCAA's West region Thursday.

MID-CONTINENT CONFERENCE MEN

Conference champion Oral Roberts (23-10) enters the NCAA tournament as the No. 14 seed in the East region and will face No. 3 seed Washington State (25-7) of the Pac-10 in Sacramento on Thursday.

FRONTIER CONFERENCE MEN

Westminster (21-11) received an invitation to the NAIA tournament and will face Southern Nazarene (27-6) in a Thursday first-round game in Kansas City, Mo. Regular-season champion Lewis-Clark (26-6) will meet Northwestern Oklahoma (20-11) also on Thursday.
