The Senate passed a bill setting up basic regulations for Segway scooters. HB315's Senate sponsor, Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Lehi, called the bill "a lot of common sense."

Rep. Aaron Tilton, R-Springville, the bill's primary sponsor, was asked by the Segway industry to carry the legislation.

The legislation would establish lighting requirements for nighttime Segway use. The bill will also allow cities to set their own guidelines and ordinances for the transportation devices.

HB315 passed by a 25-1 margin, with three senators being absent.

The bill has already cleared the House and now goes to the governor.
