BLUFFDALE — Leaders in another west-side city are speaking out against the use of tolling on the Mountain View Corridor.

The Bluffdale City Council passed a resolution Saturday stating its opposition to imposing tolls on the proposed 40-mile freeway in western Salt Lake County and northwest Utah County.

Similar resolutions have been passed in South Jordan, West Jordan and West Valley City.

"To single out this particular road and say we have to do it as a toll road, I think sets a bad precedent and is unfair to residents on the west side of the valley," Council member Nancy Lord said.

Jess Kelley was the lone member of the council to vote against the ordinance. Kelley said he believes toll roads are a "great idea."

Although state and local leaders agree the road is needed to keep traffic flowing on the rapidly growing west side, Utah Department of Transportation officials have said no funding exists for the estimated $2 billion project.

The Utah Transportation Commission is considering whether Mountain View should be built as a toll road.
