The 200th birthday of Wilford Woodruff will be commemorated at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square.

Born in 1807 in West Avon, Conn., he was an early missionary, apostle and pioneer and became fourth president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Under President Woodruff's administration, polygamy was ended as a church practice and Utah gained statehood.

Elder Jeffery R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve will speak, and selections from the musical "Went On My Way Rejoicing" will be presented. The public is invited.
