PROVO — The Utah Lake Commission received final approval from the Utah State Senate on Feb. 19 and now all that remains to cement the commission's official formation is a signature from Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.

To celebrate the signature, the commission is planning to make a public announcement with the governor's office at 11 a.m. on March 9 at the Utah Lake State Park.

The governor is expected to attend the event, as well as the involved cities and city council members.

The governor's signature will signal a green light for the Department of Natural Resources, Department of Environmental Quality and Central Utah Water Conservancy District to participate in the commission along with certain municipalities that border the lake.

To have voting privileges, each participating member has agreed to pay a portion of the expected operating costs of the commission.

So far, Provo, Utah County, American Fork, Lehi, Genola and Springville have agreed to participate in the commission. Saratoga Springs, Lindon, Pleasant Grove and Highland are also considering participating in the effort.

Payson will take part as an ex-officio member and will not vote.
