JOB LOSSES: DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group announced plans to cut 13,000 jobs during the next three years. The reductions include 11,000 production workers — 9,000 in the U.S. and 2,000 in Canada — along with 2,000 salaried jobs.

PLANTS: The plan would close the Newark, Del., assembly plant in 2009, while reducing shifts at plants in Warren, Mich., and St. Louis. A parts distribution center near Cleveland also will be closed in December.

DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S FUTURE?: Company officials said they hope to restore the Chrysler Group to profitability by 2008. But DaimlerChrysler Chairman Dieter Zetsche did not rule out a potential split of the two companies, which merged in 1998. "We do not exclude any option in order to find the best solution for both the Chrysler Group and DaimlerChrysler," Zetsche said.
