MOVING ON UP: Two Real Salt Lake players, midfielder Jamie Watson and rookie keeper Chris Seitz, will be leaving training camp this weekend to join the U.S. Under-23 National Team for two weeks.

"I'm excited, because it's been about three years since I've been in with the national team," said Watson, who's in his third year with Real. "It doesn't mean I'm going to be a regular obviously, but it's a chance to go in and do well."

The U-23s will train in Los Angeles for six days from Feb. 10-16 and then head to Japan from Feb. 16-24 for three exhibition games.

Both Seitz and Watson will return in time to join RSL for its two-week training camp in Madrid, Spain later this month.

The U-23 team is the squad that will begin Olympic qualifying in 2008, a group Watson hopes he's a part of. As Ellinger points out, that group includes players born in 1985, 86, 87 and 88, so the player pool therefore is much larger and more competitive.

SWITCHING IT UP: RSL striker Jeff Cunningham hopes the league lets him wear No. 110 this year, but he knows it's highly unlikely, that's why he's prepared to switch to No. 90.

Story continues below
When Cunningham joined Real last season, the No. 11 jersey that he was accustomed to wearing was taken by Chris Brown, so instead he opted for No. 74 for two reasons. First, it added up to 11, and second, it was the number of goals he'd scored in his eight years in the league.

Entering the 2007 season, Cunningham now has 90 career goals, hence the choice of No. 90. He wanted No. 110, because his goal is to rack up 20 goals this year.
