A Layton family was mourning the loss of a son Sunday after they learned 18-year-old Eric Sieger was killed in the Iraq war.

Sieger died last Thursday when the vehicle he was riding in rolled over in Baghdad.

Krista Sieger, the soldier's mother, informed KSL-TV that military officials told the family the death was an accident. The military, however, was still investigating the possibility that a roadside bomb may have gone off, causing the vehicle to crash.

The family was told several other soldiers were involved in the accident, but all survived.

Sieger is one of 15 children. Four of his siblings are currently serving in the military, including one in Iraq.

The parents are originally from Austria but immigrated to the United States a number of years ago.

Sieger is the 21st Utahn in the military killed in the war on terror.
