Laura Hancock's article "Going Graphic" (Jan. 30) misrepresents the exploding trend of Manga. She makes it sound wonderful, engaging, appropriate — even inspiring. To the casual observer or the parent who glances at them, these may appear to be nothing more than a fancy comic book.

But be warned. Many of these addictive volumes contain drug use, fantasy violence, homosexual relationships, unmarried physical relationships, ridicule of parents and authority. And any of the drawings can be described as nothing less than pornographic.

Much of Manga is not appropriate for our youths. The Deseret Morning News and their reporters should be more precise and detailed in presenting both sides.
