A free public dialogue on radioactivity in Utah is scheduled for Thursday, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the auditorium of the downtown Salt Lake City Library, 210 E. 400 South.

The program is sponsored by the Utah Science Center and focuses both on uranium and radon. Uranium, found in Utah, produces radon gas, which the center points out is a terrible killer of Americans.

Radon is an invisible gas that can seep from the ground and rocks to accumulate in places such as basements. A press release quotes the U.S. Surgeon General as declaring radon "the second leading cause of lung cancer," surpassed only by smoking.
