PROVO — Utah County's newly elected — and re-elected — officials were sworn in Tuesday as they began their first full day of work this year.

County Commissioner Steve White re-assumed his seat and was chosen to be this year's chairman of the commission. Commissioner Gary Anderson was also sworn in and will be vice chairman.

Anderson was sworn in as a county commissioner. He served two terms with the commission from 1983 to 1989.

Anderson did not run for a third term in 1989 after the Timpanogos Community Mental Health scandal erupted in the county.

Anderson was cleared from having any involvement with the 1988 scandal. In August of that year, three top administrators of the Timpanogos Mental Health Center in Provo were charged with a combined 117 felony counts of theft of $3.5 million in public funds through unauthorized contractual and credit-card expenditures. They each served 18 months in prison.

The following positions also become effective on Tuesday: Utah County assessor, Kris Poulson; Utah County attorney, Jeff Buhman; Utah County clerk/auditor, Bryan Thompson; Utah County recorder/surveyor, Randy Covington; Utah County sheriff, James Tracy; Utah County treasurer, Robert Kirk.
