OREM — The Orem City Council passed a resolution Dec. 12 in support of Utah Valley State College's effort to become a university.

The resolution notes that UVSC has grown over the years. University status would "enhance the image of the school for both the students and faculty," the resolution said.

Val Hale, UVSC vice president of institutional advancement and marketing, called the resolution "wonderful."

"We're going to be inviting other cities and (government) entities throughout the (Utah) county and Wasatch County to maybe follow suit and maybe do the same thing," Hale said at a Dec. 12 meeting of UVSC's Board of Trustees. "Orem did this one on their own initiative, and I thought this was a wonderful (thing)."
