"I think UVSC is the thing that has changed the most during the time I was in the Legislature," he added. "When I got there it was really coming into its own as a community college. Now it has four-year programs, an expanded campus, has seen extensive enrollment growth and ground has been broken for a library. I think others in the Legislature realize the importance of the need for UVSC to become a university."

Candidates to replace Alexander will have three weeks to campaign to the county delegates, a list of whom will be provided to those who file for the position.

Those eligible to run are registered Republicans who have lived for at least six months in District 62 in northeastern Provo. To qualify, those interested must file a letter of intent by 5 p.m. on Dec. 8.

The letters must be delivered to Utah County Republican Party chairwoman Marian Monnahan or secretary Susan Bramble or mailed to P.O. Box 452, Provo, UT 84603.

The party has scheduled an orientation meeting for candidates on Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. at Rock Canyon Elementary School, 2405 Timpview Drive, Provo.

Delegates will elect the new representative at a District 62 caucus scheduled on Jan. 2 at 6 p.m. at Rock Canyon.
