The votes are in. Young readers have made their book wish lists. Here are a few of the titles to serve as suggestions for parents and grandparents so they'll know what kids would like to read:

Emillie Wright loves the Amelia Bedelia books while Harrison Bludworth would like to have the popular "Pirateology." Joel Rosenberg agrees, but he also puts the Charlie Bone series on his list. They are second-graders at Cottonwood Elementary.

Megan Roberts in third grade likes mysteries but also has fun reading about Junie B. Jones. Her sister, Rachel, in fifth grade would like "Wright Three" because "it is the sequel to 'Chasing Vermeer' and I loved to read that one!"

Hoggan Blackham, a fourth-grader, joins lots of other kids in wanting the entire collection of "A Series of Unfortunate Events."

Sienna Hill-Miller, of Washington Elementary, Salt Lake District, has added the picture book "Heckedy Peg" to her list.

Judy Hollingshead's sixth-grade class at Driggs Elementary in Granite District took a poll of favorites and listed everything from classic ("The Secret Garden" and "Where the Red Fern Grows") to contemporary ("Hoot and Eragon"). Their wish list included "The Goose Girl," "The Giver," the Charlie Bone series, "Crispin," "Ella Enchanted" and "Ripley's Believe It or Not." Most popular were "Leon the Champion Chip" and "The Liberation of Gabriel King."

David Keyes' library classes at Newman Elementary in Salt Lake District also took polls of their favorites. The titles included lots of Christmas and winter books such as "Best Christmas Ever" (picked by Aleni and Anna), "Silent Night" (Luisa) and "The Case of the Santa Claus Mystery" (a favorite of Dulce). But the media definitely influenced others with "Bratz Clued In!" (Stephanie) and "Star Wars" (Taylor), while Chipper and Jesse both listed books about animals that had appeared on "Animal Planet." SpongeBob books appeared on the lists (Matt and Lluvia) as did Captain Underpants (Josh, Osbaldo, Ivonne, Esperanza and many others). Series books are favorites of the majority of young readers, including such titles as "The Chronicles of Narnia" (Breanne), Harry Potter books (Jane, Darrien, Ciara and others) and "A Series of Unfortunate Events" books (Shanice, Alyssa and others).

Danette and Ben Anderson's children, who attend Samuel Morgan Elementary and Fairfield Junior High in Davis District, also let their parents know about favorite books. Porter, in first grade, listed "Late for School" and "Jungle Drums." Third-grader Trevor, who's found series books, has favorites in "A to Z Mysteries" and "Capital Mysteries." Hyden, in fifth grade, turned to more classic titles: "Where the Red Fern Grows" and "Danny, the Champion of the World." "The Week in the Woods" and "The Last of the Great Wang Doodles" were chosen by seventh-grader Jarem.
