For the second straight game, all 12 scholarship players played for the Utes as Giacoletti searched for players willing to guard. He said he couldn't single out any players for their defense Saturday.

The Utes got off to a good start as they did against SUU, but as they also did against SUU, they quickly lost it.

After the Utes went up 17-10, the Broncos quit doubling on Nevill and started guarding the 3-point shooters. They scored on six of seven possessions, while the Utes had three turnovers and missed two shots.

What really hurt the Utes was a four-point play when Brody Angley stole the ball from Weigh and as he went in for a layup was fouled hard by Lawrence Borha.

The officials assessed a flagrant foul to Borha and ejected him from the game, and Danny Pariseau replaced Angley and sank both foul shots.

Next up for the Utes is a game against Colorado Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Huntsman Center, followed by a game against Rice on Saturday night.

UTE NOTES: Last time Utah started a season 0-2 was 1979, before any of the current players were born. Those Utes lost back-to-back games to Midwestern and Weber State ... Bronco starting guard Danny Pariseau, who scored 12 points and had 8 assists, played for Giacoletti at Eastern Washington before transferring to Santa Clara ... The all-time series between the two schools stands at 5-5 after the Bronco win. Before Saturday, the last game in the series was 1988 with the Broncos winning 66-60.
