Lots happening at Tracy Aviary

A variety of attractions are either under way or planned at Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City.

The aviary in conjunction with the Utah Arts Alliance, will present an exhibit of original fine art by Utah artists, "Changing Nature: Ebb & Flow," a juried exhibit, through Dec. 14 in the Mill @ Tracy Aviary. Free with admission.

Year-round bird programs and weekend free-flight bird shows run Tuesdays through Fridays. The Aviary's educational staff will have programs for parents and children starting at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., then finishing with an up-close bird program with the aviary's trainers indoors in the Mill @ Tracy Aviary. Visitors are encouraged to tour the facility to see the different characteristics and behavior birds exhibit this time of year. Free with admission.

Tracy Aviary is open for Thanksgiving. Families are invited to come and celebrate the occasion with the birds. Keepers and trainers have special treats to celebrate the holiday with the birds. At 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m., treats will be given to the birds. Check at the visitor services center for locations.

When children are out of school over the Thanksgiving break, the aviary provides opportunities to engage their minds and their bodies in a wide array of educational activities. Activities are included with the price of admission and are available at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The Free Flight Bird Shows starts Nov. 25. Tracy Aviary has been training and practicing its indoor Free Flight Bird Shows for the Mill @ Tracy Aviary. Free Flight Bird Shows will be held weekends at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Free with admission.

Other activities, which are also included with admission, including the Migration Challenge and scavenger hunts. The scavenger hunts are available in the Nature Store.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, the aviary will have a holiday shopping extravaganza at Ten Thousand Villages. Participants can select from hundreds of items. For items purchased on Dec. 5, Tracy Aviary will receive 20 percent of sales.
