EAGLE MOUNTAIN — There's a new job opening for a city administrator in Eagle Mountain, interim Mayor Linn Strouse announced and advertised Monday.

Strouse said several City Council members support changing the current "chief of staff" position, established by former Mayor Brian Olsen, to a city administrator position.

Olsen recently resigned his office as mayor after being charged with misuse of public funds.

Shortly after taking office, Olsen abolished the city administrator position and hired Mike Wren as his chief of staff and director of public works. Wren was placed on paid administrative leave by Strouse last Wednesday.

One main difference between a city administrator and a chief of staff is City Council members must approve and appoint a city administrator, while a mayor has independent power to hire and fire a chief of staff without City Council approval.

It is hoped that a city administrator will provide "stability and continuity to city operations," Strouse said in a statement.

Strouse said she advertised the position with the Utah League of Cities and Towns, the International City Managers' Association, two major newspapers and other government organizations.
