Lorna M. Teeter, Dixon Middle School, Provo District
In Teeter's classroom at Provo's Dixon Middle School, an expression on a wall states, "If you can write your name, you can draw," said Teeter, a 23-year education veteran.
"I've never seen Lorna say something can't be done," Dixon Middle principal Rosanna Ungerman said. "I think the thing that her students like about her is her enthusiasm. And the fact that she can teach any student how to do art, even the non-artist."
Teeter's classroom features six computers she purchased a few years ago with a $10,000 grant. Students use the computers for research and to create art work and signs advertising their art museum that's on display each semester for parent-teacher conferences.
"I have all kinds of confidence in my kids," said Teeter, 57. "I praise them a lot when they do well."
In addition to her teaching duties, Teeter is the school's technology specialist, which requires helping teachers integrate technology in their classrooms, from PowerPoint slide shows to filmmaking.
