Huntsman to receive Minority Bar award

Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. is the Utah Minority Bar Association's Honoree of the Year for his support of Utah's minority communities.

The Minority Bar Association will present Huntsman with the award at the "Celebrating Diversity in the Law" annual scholarship and awards banquet. The Oct. 20 banquet will be at the Salt Lake Hardware Building, 105 N. 400 West, at 6 p.m.

Hiram Chodosh, new dean of the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, will keynote the event, which will benefit scholarships and mentoring programs for minority law students.

Other award recipients are: Utah 2nd District Juvenile Court Judge Paul Iwasaki, Distinguished Lawyer of the Year; Robert Rendon, senior vice president of Zions National Bank, Pete Suazo Community Service Award; and David Dominguez, professor at Brigham Young University J. Reuben Clark Law School, Jimi Mitsunaga Excellence in Criminal Law or Pro Bono Award.

The Utah Minority Bar Association was founded in 1991 as an organization of Utah lawyers and law students committed to promoting diversity and addressing issues that impact racial and ethnic minorities, especially within the legal community.
